Where to base yourself in Florianópolis
Stay in Lagoa da Conceição for nightlife, restaurants and coworking, in Barra da Lagoa or Campeche if the beach comes first, and in Centro if you want the city and good bus links. The island is bigger than it looks, so pick one base rather than planning to move around every day.
If you want a private room, a hotel or an apartment, our guide to where to stay in Florianópolis covers each area in more detail, with places for every budget.
Getting to and around Florianópolis
Hercílio Luz airport is in the south of the island, with direct flights from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and other South American cities. From the airport it is about 15 minutes to Campeche by taxi or app, 25 to 30 minutes to Lagoa da Conceição and the centre, and around 45 minutes to Canasvieiras.
Local buses are cheap but slow, and ride-hailing apps are reliable and reasonably priced for shorter trips. Lagoa, Barra da Lagoa and Praia Mole are close enough to manage by bus and bike, while the north beaches are easier with a car.
