Where to base yourself in Siargao
Stay in General Luna if it is your first visit. It has most of the hostels, cafes, restaurants and surf schools, the island-hopping boats leave from its beach, and Cloud 9 is a short ride north. Pacifico and the north are beautiful and far quieter, but around an hour away, so they suit a second week rather than a first few days.
If you are travelling as a couple or want a private room, our guide to where to stay in Siargao covers each area in more detail, with resorts, villas and guesthouses as well as hostels.
Getting to and around Siargao
Most visitors fly into Sayak Airport in Del Carmen, about 45 minutes to an hour by van from General Luna, or take the ferry from Surigao City to Dapa, around 20 to 30 minutes from General Luna. Many hostels can arrange a pickup if you ask in advance.
There is very little public transport, so most people rent a scooter or use tricycles and motorbike taxis. Several hostels rent scooters and surfboards on site, which makes it easy to get going on your first morning.
You will rely on your phone to message your accommodation, book surf lessons and island-hopping trips, and find your way on a scooter, so sort your data before you fly with our guide to the best eSIMs for the Philippines. If you are surfing or riding a scooter, make sure your travel insurance covers both; our guide to the best digital nomad insurance for the Philippines has the options. If you plan to work from the island, see our list of cafes and coworking spaces in Siargao.
