Choosing where to stay in Lagos
Pick a villa in or near town if you want to walk to restaurants in the evening, one near Meia Praia if the beach is the priority, and one in the countryside if you want space, privacy and a pool to yourselves. The countryside is only ten minutes or so from town by car, but it is a different, much quieter holiday.
If you are still deciding between a villa, a hotel or an apartment, our guide to where to stay in Lagos, Portugal covers each area of town in more detail, with places for every budget.
Getting to and around Lagos
Faro airport is the closest, about 90 kilometres east and around an hour by car on the A22 motorway. With a villa, picking up a hire car at the airport is usually the easiest option. Without one, the bus or train from Faro takes about two hours, and there are direct buses and trains from Lisbon too.
Once you are here, the old town, the marina and Praia da Batata are walkable, and Meia Praia and Porto de Mos are a short drive or cycle away. Parking in the old town is tight in summer, so if your villa is outside town, drive in early or use the car parks on the edge of the centre.
Staying connected is simple too. Our guides to the best eSIMs for Portugal and the best travel insurance for Portugal cover the rest of your trip, and if you are heading up the coast after Lagos, see our guide to where to stay in Ericeira.
