Where to base yourself in Medellín
Stay in El Poblado for the biggest nomad scene, the most coworking spaces and the best nightlife, and in Laureles if you want tree-lined streets, lower prices and a more local feel. Manila, at the bottom of El Poblado, is a lively, walkable middle ground.
If you want a hotel or an apartment instead, our guide to where to stay in Medellín covers each area in more detail, with places for every budget.
Getting to and around Medellín
Most international flights land at José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, about 45 minutes to an hour from El Poblado by taxi or app. Some domestic flights use Olaya Herrera airport, which is inside the city.
The metro is clean, cheap and easy to use, with stations close to El Poblado and Laureles, and the Metrocable cable cars climb into the hills. Ride-hailing apps are cheap and the easiest way to get around at night.
