Where to base yourself in Hoi An
Stay near the Old Town, in Cam Pho or by the river, if you want the lanterns, the Night Market and the food on foot, and at An Bang Beach if you want sea, beach bars and a slower pace. The two are about 5 kilometres apart, so many travellers split their stay.
If you want a private room, a villa or a boutique hotel, our guide to where to stay in Hoi An covers each area in more detail, with places for every budget.
Getting to and around Hoi An
The nearest airport is Da Nang International, about 30 kilometres away. A taxi or Grab to Hoi An takes around 45 minutes, and many hostels can book a shuttle or a transfer for you.
The Old Town is best on foot, and the easiest way to get to the beach and the rice paddies is by bicycle, which most hostels rent out cheaply. Grab cars and motorbike taxis are cheap for longer trips.
