Where to base yourself in Kotor
Stay inside the Old Town walls if you want to walk out of the door into the lanes and squares, and just outside them, or in Dobrota along the bay, for a quieter night and more space. Kotor is small, so nowhere on this list is more than a short walk or bus ride from the Old Town.
If you want a private room, an apartment or a hotel, our guide to where to stay in Kotor covers each area in more detail, with places for every budget.
Getting to and around Kotor
Tivat airport is the closest, around 15 to 20 minutes away by taxi. Podgorica airport is about 90 minutes away, and many backpackers arrive by bus from Dubrovnik, Budva or Podgorica. The bus station is a short walk from the Old Town.
The Old Town is car-free and easy to explore on foot, and the climb to St John's Fortress takes around an hour up and down. Local buses run along the bay to Dobrota, Perast and Budva, and boat tours and water taxis go to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks.
